Ethnic Rhinoplasty is a specialized type of rhinoplasty performed in accordance with the unique nasal anatomy of patients of non-Caucasian descent (Asian, African, Middle Eastern, Latin American).

In patients seeking ethnic rhinoplasty, we generally observe the following anatomical features:
Thick and Oily Skin Structure: Thick skin makes it difficult for the underlying cartilage shaping to be visible from the outside.
Weak Cartilage Support: Nasal tip cartilages are usually soft and weak, causing the tip to appear flared or flat.
Flat Nasal Bridge (Low Radix): The root and bridge of the nose are low, making the nose appear faint when viewed from the profile.
Wide Nasal Wings: The nasal base is wide, and the nostrils are horizontally spread.

Elevating the Nasal Bridge (Dorsal Augmentation): To raise a flat nasal bridge and create a more prominent profile, the patient’s own cartilage (rib or ear) or biocompatible materials are used. In our clinic, we prefer using the patient’s own tissues (autologous grafts) as they minimize the risk of infection and provide the most natural result.
Refining the Nasal Tip: Weak cartilages are strengthened with special suturing techniques and support grafts to make the nasal tip sharper, more lifted, and more defined (increased projection).
Alarplasty (Nasal Wing Narrowing): The width of the nostrils is narrowed with surgical incisions in proportion to the facial features. These scars are hidden in the creases of the nasal wings, making them inconspicuous.
A successful ethnic rhinoplasty is one that does not look “operated on” and remains proportional to the other parts of the face (eyes, cheekbones, chin). For example, in an African-American patient, a nose that is excessively narrowed or looks “pinched” will appear artificial and incompatible. Op. When alarplasty (narrowing of the nostrils) is performed, a fine scar remains at the junction of the nostrils. However, as this scar is hidden within the natural crease, it is very difficult to detect once healed.

Ethnic noses often require a significant amount of cartilage to elevate the bridge and lengthen the tip. Cartilage from the ear or septum is often insufficient. For the most durable and healthy results, your own rib cartilage is the gold standard.
The general process is similar (splint and tampon in the first week). However, due to the thick skin structure, it takes longer for the swelling at the tip of the nose to completely subside and for the nose to become thinner compared to patients with thin skin. Patience is required.
